I heard recently that geologic evidence has come to light indicating that three times in the history of Earth, the entire surface was melted by a massive impact, sufficient to destroy absolutely every living organism on land and in the sea. Every drop of sea water would have been vaporized, leaving every inch of sea floor exposed, and all the resulting salt deposits subsequently melted and vaporized as well. The only life that would have survived would have been mold-like creatures deep underground. It's sobering to think that the life force inside of each of us is resilient enough to have endured such a massive shock, not once but three times, only to spring back each time in its full glory.
Personally I think it's about time to wipe the slate clean again. The human experiment has proven itself a disaster. We're halfway through the life cycle of the sun, so statistically such global reboots should happen at least a couple more times before the complete history of Earth is told. Sometimes when I think of Bush and the war and global warming and the unwillingness of anyone in power to take a serious stand against the onslaught of terrorism -- the kind inflicted by people like Bush and Helliburton and the global corporate regime, I mean -- I almost think, "The sooner, the better."
